The Young, the Old, and the Shirtless (Kílian, Carpenter, and Krupicka)

Pike’s Peak Ascent/Marathon is one of my favorite trail races and I will not be able to run it this year.  I am running Leadville 100, which happens to be on the same weekend.  And man, looks like it’s going to be a really awesome race.  It sold out in a matter of hours,  and I am sure the line up helps.  Kilian is young, fresh, and has quads of steel; his ski mountaineering cross-training helps.  Carpenter has the course wired and has 18 wins including the last 5 years in a row.  And now  . . .  Krupicka, what can I say . . . He is shirtless!  needless to say, I am going to miss the race, not that I would  have seen the finish anyways, but they would have flown by me on the decent.

My money is on Carpenter.  He is super strong, the course is in his backyard, knows every inch of the trail, and he gets all the recovery ice cream he wants.  Honestly, I just want him to win.  He is almost 50 years old and it gives me hope as an older runner. Go Carpenter!!!

If I am feeling good after Leadville, maybe I will catch the finish.  But for some reason, I think my body will be trashed.
