Easter Came Early, Tried Some New Gels

I haven’t changed my trail eating habits for a while, when it works and stays down  . . . it’s all good.  Occasionally, I will get some freebies and give them a try, but I don’t like doing that during a race.  I want to eat what I know works.  I have always loved peanut butter, so I took a risk and bought four of the new peanut butter GU packs, they were the featured GU of the month at REI and I tried it on my last run.  I thought it was Easter, and eating a peanut butter filled egg. It was so tasty, like peanut butter fudge.  I went to REI yesterday and bought four more.

Brett Welborn of Doing More On Less suggested I try the Powerbar Energy Blasts, so I bought a pouch and tried them on the run.  They also tasted amazing, they were like a cross between Easter gummies and real fruit gummies that I eat in Spain.   I would definitely eat them again.  The only thing about the chews is eating them on the run;  I haven’t mastered chewing and running yet.  I guess that is why I like GU so much.  The consistency is not too liquidy and not that pasty, I just put it in the back of my throat, bite down and pull.  It pretty much bypasses the mouth and right to the stomach. You don’t even realize your eating.  *The suggestion came from a comment I made about loosing my appetite during ultras.

Dang, I was just at REI today, I wish I would have picked up some of the PB GU. I actually have problems on a long run with GU products, but I love peanut butter so I need to try this.

Have you ever tried Honey Stinger chews? Honey Stinger waffles? YUM!!!

I hope you and your beautiful family have a fantastic Christmas!! Looking forward to all your amazing adventures in 2012 :).

Jill: I haven't tried the Stinger chews, I gave up the gummies once I bit my cheek on a run. Ouch! But, I am experimenting again.

And I buy the Waffles all the time, but they never make it home. Yum Yum.

Merry Christmas!
