Unbreakable: The Western States 100 – DVD Release

I am getting a little too geeky about running these day.  I am reading and Googling the word “Ultrarunning” way to much, but I am finding some really cool stuff.  Check this out, they made a documentary, Unbreakable: The Western States 100.  about  the race and it will be released 12/20.  Maybe Santa will bring me a copy.

The Western States 100 is a point-to-point course, starting at the base of Squaw Valley ski resort  in California's Sierra Nevada Mountains and finishes in in Auburn, California.  It is a 100 mile race with total of 18,090 feet gain. The race is a big deal and known worldwide in the ultra community.

Screenings for the film run from 11/25 – 12/18, not that I have been able to find anyone showing it. Let me know if anyone hears something and I will be there.  ~SKA Runner
Film Overview: On June 26, 2010 four of the greatest ultramarathoners on earth toed the start line in Squaw Valley at the Western States 100-mile endurance run, the oldest and most prestigious 100-mile foot race.
"Unbreakable: The Western States 100" follows the four lead men on this amazing journey. Hal Koerner, two time defending Western States champion, and running store entrepreneur from Ashland, Oregon. Geoff Roes, undefeated at the 100-mile distance, an organic chef from Juneau, Alaska. Anton Krupicka, undefeated in every ultramarathon he has ever started, a graduate student living in Boulder, Colorado. Killian Jornet, the young mountain runner and two time Ultra-trail du Mont-Blanc champion, from Spain.
The film shadows each runner from the pre-race preparation in their hometowns to the daily life they each lead in and outside of running. While their lives may be quite different, the goal is the same: win the Western States 100-mile run. Only one will win and the journey is unforgiving.
With unprecedented access, the film takes the viewer on the course and with each of the crews, pacers and family members who are working to get their runner across the finish line. From battling injury to surprising changes in the lead, to in-depth interviews with race champions and ultrarunning figureheads, "Unbreakable: The Western States 100" showcases perhaps the most exciting race of its kind.
12-20-2011 - Official DVD street date, film available immediate digital purchase and rent.

I have a guy I have been working with for a couple years...we started out together with his first running step ever and just a couple months ago he finished his first 50-miler in Madison and qualified for Western States. He just put in for the lottery and finds out next month if he gets in. What a wildly exciting ride!

Did you qualify for Western States?

I like your counter on the sidebar. How do you update it?

I have only done one 50 miler and the course record, would not have qualified them for Western States. The course was just way too hard. So to answer your question No, I did not qualify . . . yet.. Ask me in July.

I hope he gets in and would love to hear about his adventure. I highly recommend him to listen to the Ultra Runner Podcast interviews during and after the Western States. The podcast is just awesome.
