Now, I Don’t Watch the Shopping Network, But . . . Minimalist Shoe?
Now, I don’t watch the shopping network and have never bought anything from an infomercial, although I still want a pair of Blue Blockers, but I bought a pair of running shoes online based on a video review. Not to be disrespecting to the local running stores because I do fully support them and I certainly don’t want them to go away. They know their stuff, for the average runner, but I haven't come across many ultra runners working in one, maybe because they are all out running. So I feel that I have to do a lot of research on my own, which is typical in the ultra runner world.
I have been ruining with the Asics 2130s –50s series, very structured, for the last few years and I do like them, but I have had every running injury in the book including surgery for a meniscus tear. These days, many are quick to blame the shoe and it may very well be, but I think it is more complicated than that. I think my running habits are also a major factor.
With all the minimalist talk out there, how could you not consider it. It all makes sense, we always knew the importance of strengthening your feet; we trained barefoot at the beach. Without restating what has already been said, I am jumping in and buying a pair of racing flat similar to the ones I used in high school.
I watched UltraRunner Podcast shoe review for the New Balance XC 700 Spikeless racing flat and I bought a pair online. It is a new step for me, generally I take weeks or even months to buy a shoe and always feel guilty because I take up so much of the clerks time. But, I have grown to respect their opinion on the show. Basically the shoes are cross-country racing flats with a rock plate. This style of shoes are only sold during the season and then the shops send the shoes back to the manufacture; I had to buy them online. Don’t need to say anything about the shoe . . . watch the video. .
I will let you know what I think. So far, they feel great on my feet,
